Tibor Gergely (1900-1978) was born in Hungary, and emigrated to the US in 1939. He was mostly self-taught, but he quickly established himself in NYC as an illustrator, providing covers for The New Yorker in the 1940s. With the establishment of Golden Books for children he became one of their primary artists, producing illustrations for: The Five Little Firemen,” The Happy Man and His Dump Truck,” Scruffy the Tugboat,” “Little Toot,” and many many more.

They now live in Hastings on Hudson, New York. Among the children's books TIBOR GERGELY has illustrated are A DAY IN THE JUNGLE, THE TAXI THAT HURRIED, TOOTLE, SCUFFY THE TUGBOAT and LITTLE POND IN THE WOODS.
