Bobby the Dog #240 (#440 reprinted 1972)

by Pierre Probst (Author)
Publisher: Golden Press
Publication date: January 1, 1961
" This story follows the day of Bobby the Dog and his pet mouse. The narrator goes through and explains lots of the events of the day, how Bobby keeps himself clean, in good shape, and other "educational" things like that."

Publishers Note: To Our Readers:
We are happy to introduce you to Bobby and his two friends, Charcoal the mouse and Taba-tha Pussycat. They come to you all the way from France, where little boys and girls love to read about their adventures. You will see that some things in France are quite different from over here. There they have rolls, called "croissants," dipped in coffee for breakfast. Bobby thinks they are delicious. You will also see many French words in the pictures. Try to find out what they mean and then try to say them in French. Later on, when you study French in school, this may make it easier for you to learn the language.

Rusty Goes to School #479

Translation by Ann Weingarden. Published by Golden Press, New York, New York, 1962
This story follows Rusty as he goes to school. Includes cameos of Bobby, Puff and Inky. It says © 1962 (US version), © 1957 in France. - etsy - ebay - ebay2 #264 (1955) Sydney; Golden Press.

Publishers Note: Rusty and his little friends come to you all the way from France, where boys and girls love to read about their adventures. As you can see, things in Madam Graypaws' school are quite different from over here. The children learn to draw a French flag on the blackboard. The sign outside the school says "Ecole" instead of "School." If you look carefully you will see many French words in the pictures. Try to find out how to say them. Later on, when you study French in school, this may make it easier for you to learn the language.

The Treasuries

These two are the American and British Treasuries released by Golden Books or its British affiliate. They measure about 14" x 10" and have about 150 pages. As far as I can tell they are collections of the shorts that were originally released in France in the mid 1950s.

The Golden Treasury of Caroline and Her Friends

A Big Golden Book, 160 pages, Hardcover, First Published January 1, 1961 It contains six shorts: "Caroline's Party", "Caroline at Camp", "The Trip to India", "The Rescue", "Spring Cleaning" and "Off to the Mountains".

Caroline and Her Friends, a Golden Pleasure Book, UK
I have only seen three of these go by on Ebay. It appears to be the British congruent of the above, though it has a completely different collection of stories. They include "A Camping Holiday", "Journey to the North Pole", "Trip Round Europe", "At the Ranch", "Winter Sports" and one more (maybe Seaside or Circus).
