Woodsy Owl originated in 1970 when the U.S. Forest Service commissioned Harold Bell, Chuck Williams, and Glenn Kovar to create a new environmental mascot to supplement Smokey Bear. Woodsy was introduced to the public on September 15, 1971, with his famous slogan, "Give a Hoot, Don't Pollute," and an owl was chosen for its association with wisdom and its presence in both forest and urban areas. The first printing of the officially licensed Woodsy Owl and the Trail Bikers #107 VGC from 1974 was published in Sydney, Australia. A good book for younger kids that includes dirt bikes, lots of animals, and a good message of not littering and doing our part to make the world a nicer place.
