Illustrator: Leonard Weisgard

About the Author:

Leonard Joseph Weisgard was an American writer and illustrator of more than 200 children's books and authored several himself, including Silly Willy Nilly and Treasures to See. He is known best for his collaborations with writer Margaret Wise Brown.

Brown and Weisgard collaborated on over 24 books together, putting their stamp on children's books that are still popular today.

Beyond Margaret Wise Brown, his illustrated works include editions of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter and Tales from Shakespeare by Charles and Mary Lamb.

Weisgard created a new kind of children’s book by incorporating mid-century modernism with an appreciation for American folk art.

Weisgard married Phyllis Monnot in 1951 and moved to Copenhagen, Denmark, with her and their three children in 1969.
