Hiram's Red Shirt (A Little Golden Book)
by Mabel Watts; Illustrated by Aurelius Battaglia
“Hiram’s Red Shirt” was written in 1981 and the reading and the concept were a little more advanced than the typical Little Golden Book.
Hiram is a farmer who loves his red shirt. In fact, he wears it every day and washes it every Monday and Thursday. While he is flipping pancakes one day, the elbows of his shirt rips open. Deciding to patch his favorite shirt using the shirt’s cuffs, he mends it saying, “A little from here, makes a little for there”. However, poor Hiram soon learns that in order to make up for the shirts missing cuffs, he needs to cut the shirt tails off, and so it begins over and over even cutting from his blue jeans until both pants and shirt are unwearable. - Worthpoint
