Author Valerie Thomas and Illustrator Korky Paul created the original Winnie the Witch book in 1987. The book won the Red House Children's Book Award in 1988 and was reprinted nine times by 1997. In 2016, the series was rebranded as Winnie and Wilbur and expanded to include young fiction books written by Laura Owen.
